Hello and Welcome

I’m Darin, author of Dodgebomb. I served 15 years in the active duty Army, advancing from Private to Captain. I graduated from West Point, served two tours in Iraq, and led soldiers on hundreds of combat patrols.

Dodgebomb captures much of what it meant to serve in Iraq. This satirical work follows a lieutenant and his platoon as they go out on patrol each day and try to stay alive. It reveals the trials of regular guys who had to gut it out through America’s sustained involvement in the Middle East.

Most recently published memoirs focus around Green Berets or Navy Seals. These archetypes of American patriotism seem to single-handedly win our nation’s wars, but they are not the norm. Dodgebomb brings to light what is missing from these accounts; the rank and file, unassuming, ordinary soldiers who fought Al Qaeda, broke bread with sheiks, and tried to understand why our country set foot in the Middle East in the first place.
